Small business owners are at this time of year under enormous pressure. With all the finance regulations with their strict deadlines and superannuation – it all can be a bit daunting. For many of my friends who own small businesses, they head off after end of financial year to refresh their batteries and get some much needed rest and relaxation.
Today, after spending last night reading a ’self help’ book (something I never do!), I woke up at 5am roaring to go.

Starting fresh

A new financial year and already we are in day 4. Every end of financial year or start to the new year for that matter, is like a fresh start to many small businesses. It’s a time to re-think your strategy, re-invent your marketing programs and rejuvenate your team.

In the past few weeks, we have been inundated with company’s needing their new businesses named or their current business renamed.

After sitting in on a meeting with some suppliers of marketing related products to one of my clients today, I was abruptly reminded of just how easy it is for good sales people to pursuade small businesses to use one product over another.

I have a problem. Actually, I have many but this is just one of them that I need to address really fast.

I have to admit – I have been hiding under a rock when it comes to what is going on with Australia’s Political parties.

Day after day I speak with entrepreneurs who have a great business concept, excellent service and are in general really nice people, but they don’t know how to sell themselves nor do they know how to put their best foot forward.

 You might remember a few weeks back I mentioned giving a presentation to a group of image consultants and stylists. Since then it seems I’ve been talking with loads of people about how difficult it is to maintain a fresh and stylish look. How you present yourself is so important in your career as well as personal life.

As I travel around the world, I am always fascinated by the different marketing consultants in various regions.
The pressure is on with the end of financial year, just days away.
This morning I was chatting to my creative director about a client. I was reminded that as a marketer, we often forget about the small things that make our client’s brands so special and unique because we are too busy doing rather than looking at the brand through pictures.
