Why marketing is critical to people management
We’ve all done it. You know – got so busy that we forgot that the saying “hello” to our team just doesn’t cut the mustard.
One of the biggest topics that clients are talking to our marketing agency about today is how they can use marketing to better communicate to their people and help manage them in a way that everyone remains on the same page and grows from the experience.
Someone Steals a Client
I'm binge watching The Good Wife. I feel almost guilty to say this out loud, but I am and for years I have avoided it because the name of the show and the images they used to sell it didn’t pique my interest.
New York is more than just another city in the big world we live in. It is a city with so much hope, excitement and opportunity, that even people that have glasses half empty, have to at the very least appreciate.
What many tech entrepreneurs just don't get
I've been here since the first few people moved in. I was here when they were knocking down walls and renovating. I have seen a lot. Many entrepreneurs come and go and there's a few that made it big like Yik Yak, Bitcoin and Chevy. They were the one's that raised a lot of capital and rolled out their businesses, taking them to the next level. From my knowledge, all with investor buy-in.
Our team have been interviewing hundreds of candidates and its interesting to see how many of them perform in an interview setting, or as many would say, on the first date.
Here are 15 things to consider when going for an interview:
Some entrepreneurs are neurotic
It's a Saturday and I am sitting in my friends living room talking business while at the same time reading emails and catching up on the latest in business news.
As we talk I realize that entrepreneurs are no different from celebrities, movie stars, singers, musicians or any other career that is centre stage.
The reality is we all have a bit of neurotic behaviour in us - whether we like it or not. Some entrepreneurs are more neurotic than others - micro-managing, controlling, double A-Type personalities that find it hard to accept another person's way of doing things, and then others just tip the iceberg.
Many entrepreneurs have a goal, or an idea of where they want to be. They are achievement orientated and often lack discipline, needing to hire the latter in to complement their existing skill base.
How to keep your old books in one piece : a must read for entrepreneurs
It is a piece of art and each book has a story that it wishes to tell. Each book was put together by people who loved what is inside and wanted to share it with others. Each page is full of dialogue from authors all over the world, wanting to explore their inner most thoughts, passion, and view on something that they believe is meant not just for themselves but for others around them.
We each have a story to be told - don't we? As I sat in a coffee shop with my friend Huib today, we discussed some interesting life stories that people have shared with us in public forums. What we believed was a good story and some that we thought could be told in a different way, or perhaps should not be told at all.
It's a problem that many small business owners face time and time again. I am no different.
I have travelled the world-over with friends, on conferences and for business, visiting the most amazing places including Turkey, Dubai, Barcelona and more recently Amsterdam.
